Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Kentucky

Evicted by non-owner with police help

While the real owners were out of town, I was evicted by previous owners and the county law. When I was approached by these people, (who were the previous owners) I told them I was renting the building from the current owners. They called the county law and when the police arrived they gave the law a copy of the previous deed to the place I was renting. The law then told me to move my belongings or I could face legal penalties. Confused I move my stuff. I do not understand why the law took these peoples word on a whim. The current owners did show me a valid deed when I first rented but was not home when this happened. The new owners deed is dated 2002 while the other deed shown to the law was 2000. I am now renting from another landlord across town. Can I be compensated for the monies and cost I inccured from having to move? I do not blame the current owners as I feel they are victims in this as well. (They lost another renter earlier in the week because of these same people.) Was the county law within their boundries to have me pack my belongings up and move? Please help!!

Re: Evicted by non-owner with police help

It really depends on quite a few things. Firts of all, however, an owner is supposed to go into court to evict a person and cannot simply come and have the police remove you from the premises. Secondly, you probably have issues against the former owners. It is hard to take on a county government without legal help. So you probably want to talk to a lawyer to determine whether you do have a case.
