Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Kentucky
A would-have-been roomate owes me $600
I am 19 years old and i live with my parents. In may of 2004 i wanted to move out. i had a friend that wanted me to move in with her and one of her friends. I thought it would be cool and everything, i just had to break the news to my parents that i was moving out. my parents tried their hardest to make me stay. I had already paid my friend $600 for the first two month's rent (june and july). on june 1st, (i had not moved in yet) my friend calls me and tells me she let someone else move in instead of me, i asked her why, and she said that she needed someone more reliable. so now we come down to the point that i paid her $600 for two month's rent that I NEVER used, i never moved in, she replaced me before i could move in. She only wants to pay me back $150 (she claims i owe her half the deposit and half a month's rent) but i never moved in. i never signed any lease documents, and i have PROOF that i paid her $600. Am i entitled to the full $600? or am i stuck with $150? thanks guys

Assuming there are no written documents to the contrary, you should be entitled to the full amount back. My advice is to file a small claims suit against your friend and recover the money that way. Best of luck.
