Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Kentucky
Conflicting Deeds to same property
My wife and I bought 3 lake area lots in Oct. 2000. This property was to be our retirement location. When the land was purchased, we had a Title Opinion done on each of the lots by the attorneys that handled the deed transfer. The opinions came back unencumbered. We went to work to clear the land, had it surveyed, installed City Water, Installed a septic system. Installed the electric service, put in a driveway and spent many hours of personal labor to get it ready to have a double wide mobile installed in Spring of 2002.
This month, I wrote to the land owners of 2 surrounding lots in an attempt to purchase additional land only to recieve a phone call from one of the owners who stated that she not only owned the lot I had inquired about, but owned and pocessed a deed to one of my lots as well.
I questioned my origional attorney who did a follow up and informed me that this was true, that some time back, the land had been in a bankruptcy action years ago and the plat had got fouled up.
I purchased the lot from an individual who had owned the property for 15 years.
This is the only lot that is suitable for a dwellingof the 3.
Question: Who owns the land and who is responsible for what I have invested?

Re: Conflicting Deeds to same property
you need to consult an attorney immediately. if this land is located in kentucky, please e-mail me at [email protected] and i may be able to assist you. the issue of who owns the land is not clear, but if it is the persons who you wrote to, you may have a legal action against the attorney who performed the title opinion.
