Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Kentucky
My current landlord, who we owe money too, has decided he wants us out. We agreed to be out by a certain date, and have been accepted with another apartment, based on current landlord giving us a good referral, which he did. Now, current landlord wants a signed document stating that we owe x number of dollars, and it will be paid by a certain date. If I do not agree to sign form, he states he will go back to our new apartment manager, and till them we owe him money, after giving us a prior good referral. Is this not extortion, and what recourse do we have?

Do you actually owe the money? If so, pay what you owe. If not, then, yes, that would be extortion.
