Check Issued After Death

If I file an insurance claim for my ill relative and the check arrives after he/she has died, can the check be added to the estate or does it need to be reissued specifically in the name of the estate?

Re: Check Issued After Death

If the check is a reimbursement then it goes to the estate. If there is an open estate, give it to the executor/administrator so that he or she can deposit it. It can be reissued if necessary. If the check goes directly to the provider of services (dr, hosp, etc) then it can be cashed by them. If there is no estate-open one.
