Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in Kentucky

A very close friend of 23 years passed away, he told me and others that he wanted me to have everything. We have not been able to find a will and his estranged brother is taking me to court over things that where given to me before my friend passed. Is there anything I can do?

If your friend gave you the items as gifts before he passed away, and you took possession of them before his death, those items rightfully belong to you. If your friend simply said that, after his death he wants you to have those items, you have no claim to the items and they belong to his estate (of which I would assume the estranged brother is a beneficiary). Bequests must be made in writing according to Kentucky statute, otherwise they are not valid.
