Family drama after suicide

My fiance's step father committed suicide about a month ago. His biological daughter is the executor of his estate. My fiance and his brother (the deceased's stepsons) are helping her. The three ''children'' (all in their 20s) agree on all aspects of the will, insurance, and estate. HOWEVER, their aunt, the deceased's sister, does not. She will not let any of us talk to her mother (our grandmother!) She will not even let them into the house. She says they cannot remove anything until the estate goes through probate. She is claiming some of the deceased personal property as her own, since it was her father and grandfather's (even though they left it to her brother when they passed away). She is demanding to see the suicide note and insurance policies. She wants insurance money left to her mother to be put in an account with just her mother's name, when it was the deceased's wish that this money be put in an account in his daughter's name, so she could handle his mom's finances. She even tried to retain the same attorney as her niece, and asked him to see the documents. We are all very tired and sorrowful. We do not need her antics! Any advice on how to handle this would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Family drama after suicide

Unless the Aunt is in the will, she does not have anything much to say about it. It is an unfortunate situation thing about your grandmother. The rights of your fiance and his siblings can only be protected in probate and it is important that this process begin as soon as possible. At that point, the Executor/Executrix of the will will have authority to pursue property. The family has taken the proper step in obtaining an attorney. Folow his/her advice at this stage.
