Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in Kentucky

Transfer of deed on inherited house

When my grandmother died she willed to my cousin her home for the small sum of $8000 which is to be devided among her children. How long after he pays this amount can the courts/attorney hold the money before dispersing it. Also how is the deed to be done as far as children signing off on it?

Re: Transfer of deed on inherited house

A lot depends on how the will is worded. Usually when property is devised by will, no deed is given. The recorded will is the title along with the grantor's deed. Kentucky law provides that no final settlement can be made until 6 months after the representative is appointed. If the Executor waits too long, than an action can be filed to compel settlement. Seek the advise of local counsel.
