Legal Question in Admiralty Law in Louisiana

iam a capt on a towboat and the company was bought by a corperate company. They have brought about different changes that dont work for me. Ive been working for this co. for 10yrs. , i've a very good work record with them. never been late or refused to do what they ask. I told my supervisor I was looking for another job and i would give a notice when I find one. can they fire me because i seek employment elsewere?

Louisiana is an at will employment state. At any time, an employer may fire anyone with or without cause and an employee may quit with or without cause. The only barrier to that is discrimination. So long as the employer is not discriminating based on what is called a "suspect classification" (race, color, national origin, sex, religion), the employer may fire anyone with or without cause.

This also presupposes that you do not have an employment agreement that specifies a term of employment and that you do not have a collective bargaining agreement (union agreement) setting forth similar terms of employment.
