Re: Costs of Filing Bankruptcy
This answer assumes you are asking about a consumer bankruptcy - either chapter 7 or chapter 13. The fee an attorney can charge for a Chapter 7 or Chapter 13 varies widely from district to district and from attorney to attorney. If the attorney perceives that your case is complicated, the attorney fees will be more than in a simple case.
In addition to paying your attorney, you must pay the court costs, which also depend upon the chapter you are filing. The filing fee for a Chapter 7 is $299, the filing fee for a Chapter 13 is $274. I urge you to consult an attorney to discuss your situation more fully.
