dismiss vs discharge from chapter 13

I was dismissed from chapter 13 in 2002. I am attending to buy a car.Several car dealships turn me down due to dismissal on the paperwork.They told me I needed discharged on the paperwork.What is the difference between dismiss and discharge.What can I do about this problem. thank-you .

A discharge means that you have completed the plan and are forgiven from all listed unsecured debts among other things.

A dismissal means that you did not complete your plan and were kicked out. Accordingly, you still remain responsible for all of the debt.

Generally, the car dealership is indicating that you are still responsible for all of the debt, ie your credit remains bad, unless you have a discharge which you have indicated you do not have because your case was dismissed.
