Legal Question in Bankruptcy in Louisiana

Modeling Agency has filed bankruptcy

My 12 year old daughter was chosen at a New York Models Inc. open call. We paid $500. for her to go to a ''showcase'' where agents would possibly sign her to their agencies. We never made it to a showcase and today my daughter received a letter from the U.S. Bankruptcy Court of Eastern Louisiana that this agency has filed chapter 7. There is a date and time listed for creditors to attend. Should I attend on her behalf? Will this help to recover our $500. we paid out and never received services for? Does is matter that she is a minor? I don't have the funds to retain a lawyer, what are my options in hopes of getting my money back?

Chances are you won't get your money back. There is a meeting of creditors called a 341 meeting, but secured creditors are paid first out of the bankruptcy estate. Your claim would be that of an unsecured creditor. You can file a form called a Proof of Claim that you can get on the bankruptcy website if it is not too late and if there is any money left over, you may get something. Don't count on it. However, your loss may be tax deductible.
