Legal Question in Business Law in Louisiana

Employment status

As a medical transcriptionist for a hospital for nearly 11 years, I think I am the only one left with employment status. Maybe there are two of us left. the others are all contract workers, because about 5-6 years ago that was how they started hiring. If I quit and come back, I have to be a contract workers, as one of my coworkers did.

My question and concern is, can the hospital legally revoke my employment status with full benefits and change me to a contract worker, whereupon I would lose my excellent health insurance benefits?

It depends on your employment contract. Louisiana is an "at will" state and you are employed at the will of your employer. He can fire you at any time unless the termination violates a state or federal law.....and those usually deal with race, sex, religion, sexual orientation and those sort of things. And then, your redress would be damages. So, I guess the answer to your question is yes, they can fire you unless you have a contract or it would be a violation of law.
