Legal Question in Civil Rights Law in Louisiana

I'm 17 and I'm seeing at 23 year old. I'll be 18 in February. Can he get into trouble even though I'm so close to 18? Also, I'm planning to move in with him. I'm a senior in high school and yes, I will continue to go to school. Can I move in with him now? Or must I wait until I'm 18?

17 is the age of consent in Louisiana, so there is no legal problem with your relationship. 17 is a strange age under the law. You are no longer a juvenile (16 and under), but not yet an adult (18 and older). Nevertheless, 17 is the age of consent for sexual relations, so a sexual relationship betwen a 17 year old and a 23 year old is not illegal.

That fact, however, may mean little to your parents, who I assume still support you. If they are not in favor of this relationship, my personal advice would be to honor their wishes. Just because you can legally do something does not always mean you should do it.
