Legal Question in Civil Rights Law in Louisiana

auto accident

i was driving my grandfathers truck he had no insurance and i had an expired licence i hit a ladys car in the back i was not ticketed the lady had no damage im now being suied for 16000 why is this because the truck was not mine . am i responsible to have insurance on a vehicle that i do not even own .i was given the option to set up payment arrangments but i dont even know what im being suied for what damage im willing to pay for something i did but i dont feel its my responsoblity

I agree totally in agreement with Mr. Lambert and would add what if you had been hit from the back? Should the driver be responsible or just the owner? If it is your GF's fault for not having insurance, whose fault is it that you were driving when prohibited? Now about the suit. You do not have to agree to pay anything and can make them go to trial to prove the damages.

You are responsible. You were driving. If you have insurance on your own car, it may cover you even while driving another person's car. If you were driving without any insurance at all, shame on you. You need to accept responsibility for your actions. Whose responsibility could it be but yours if you were driving a car and crashed into the back of someone else?
