Legal Question in Civil Rights Law in Louisiana

I am getting a divorce from my wife of 1.5 years. Her father is a police officer and in the past has jokingly threatened me by saying the only way out of the family is in a coffin or that he would take me hunting or off-shore fishing and i wouldnt be making the trip back. Now that we are going thru the divorce he is making those threats more often to my face and to my friends when i am not there. The other day, he said "you better make the right decision, because there are alot of woods out here to hide bodies in".

Even though i dont believe he would ever lay a hand on me, it still makes me uncomfortable. Is there anything i can do? Especially since he is a police officer?

Tape your conversation with him when he says these things, and if you can have another person listen in. This is legal.
