Legal Question in Civil Rights Law in Louisiana

Financed a car for my girlfriend and now we have broken up

I financed a car for my girlfriend because she had bad credit. She used her car as a trade in, the value for the trade in on the contract is $3,000. We have since broken up and I took the car away from her because it is in my name and on my insurance and I am therefor responsible for the car and any damages it does. She has wrecked my other car twice, once was a hit and run because she was drunk.

She now wants the $3000 back plus any monthly notes she has paid on the car and is threatening to sue me for it. Should I be worried about this?

Each party has an interest in the car to the extent that a contribution in money or other thing of value was made. Just because title is in the name of one does not deprive the other of their interest. You should make arrangements to provide her the interest in the automobile she created with her trade-in, or be concerned about additional costs/charges should the matter go to court.
