Legal Question in Civil Rights Law in Louisiana

Handicapped

I'm am 57 years old and mentally handicapped. I live with my mother who is my only care giver. She has became ill and my family members want to put me in a home, regardless of what I want. Can they legally make me leave my home without my consent? What rights do I have and who can I get to represent me if it comes down to that? And can they make me give up my inheritence upon my mother's death?

Re: Handicapped

Call your local bar association. They will know of lawyers who represent people in your position. You have many protections. Your relatives cannot force anything contrary to that which you and your mother agree upon. No one can force you to "give up" an inheritance. Seek legal representation in your town, and speak with those recommended by the Bar Association.
