Legal Question in Civil Rights Law in Louisiana

How long legally can someone be kept in a hospital for psychiatric reasons? I am being told 15 days if she does not sign the papers. She is of legal age. Is this true?

My understanding is that a person can be held up to 72 hours if an ER doctor believes they may be a threat to themselves or others. Beyond that, I believe the coroner must commit them.
