Legal Question in Civil Rights Law in Louisiana

How do I protect myself against a false claim of fraud?

I recently broke up with my signifigent other. During our relationship, over the last several months, he gave me his password for his paypal account. (An online payment service; wire money from a bank account to a person to pay for items.) After breaking up, he filed a claim of fraud, saying I did not have permission to use the account. He retroactively cancelled payments for merchandise shipped to me, paid for on his behalf through his account. He told these people he had no way of contacting me (untrue) and that he couldn't help them to retrieve their items. When these people have contacted me, I have graciously mailed back their merchandise or offered an alternative form of payment. He has contacted my office and others claiming I stole $2000 from him, etc... I have contacted both Ebay and Paypal to inform them that I am aware of the claim of fraud and that it is untrue; that I wish to resolve it. They both refuse to speak to me. I am afraid that my ex might take legal action, and although I am certain that justice will prevail, I still cannot afford a lawyer. I don't want to be put on trial for mail fraud if I've done nothing of the sort! Please tell me what I can do to protect myself besides wait around to get sued?!

Short of getting an attorney to seek restraining these "creditors" from seeking to collect from you, the only reasonable thing you can do is to bide your time, collect any and all evidence of your position, and see if the "creditors" do actually try to come after you, or report you to credit bureaus, that will be the time to seek legal assistance.
