Slander by a News Agency

I am wondering what kind of legal actions a political candidate can take against a news reporter and the agency, for false reporting against that candidate? The reporter used unverifiable anonymous sources to slander this particular candidate, and reported the ''story'' as ''truth''; not that the activities in question ''allegedly'' occured. This reporter also made false claims regarding statements never acutally made by that candidate. This particular reporter's husband stands to benefit financially by the above mentioned political candidate losing the election. Does this candidate have any grounds to pursue legal action?

"Almost" anything goes in politics, however, lying is never allowable. Truth is a defense to claims of libel and slander, so if the reports were false and the reporter knew it, they can be sued for damages. So find a good attorney and go after them.
