Legal Question in Technology Law in Louisiana
Can I be sued for libel? The situation is I joined an online forum about radio communications. I inadvertently gave advice to someone about using a HAM radio as a business tool when in fact that is against the rules set forth by the FCC. They banned me. They can do that, it's their right. When I checked the reason they said "for being an idiot." I was very upset they called me that so I asked them the reason for being banned (at the time they didn't put the reason as me giving illegal advice, just "for being an idiot." Only later did they finally tell me the real reason.) So I emailed them and threatened to go public and negative advertise for their company based on how I was treated (unprofessionally) unless they gave me the real reason I was banned. They said well now you threatened us and we are consulting our legal team on perusing legal action for "punitive damages." What punitive damages? I never ACTUALLY slandered them on the internet, I just threatened to. They have to prove I cost them anything, and considering it was true, that should be my defense. How do I defend myself? I have proof that they called me an idiot, which I was told was absolute defense against slander or libel. Please help me!
