Legal Question in Construction Law in Louisiana

My rights as a property owner, I hired a contractor to remodel my master bathroom. He signed a contract I created in a notebook with a total of $3,990.00, he agreed to have it complete within a month. This total included plumbing and electrical work that he said he could complete. We both signed this contract. After starting the work, he brought in 2 different plumbers and attempted to do the electrical work himself. Which in turn caused over $1,000.00 worth of electrical issues for me the homeowner. He collected over $2,500.00 from us during the course of a month and a half saying he was paying the plumbers and buying more materials. He then collected $340.00 on the 15th of April then disappeared for 16 days claiming a family member passed and he had to handle the funeral. No phone calls, nothing just gone! Reappeared with a phone call on the 1st asking for the rest of the money. Meantime, we have hauled all the trash away ourselves and dealt with a subcontracted plumber who he never paid. So we paid the plumber and got a receipt for that. He is now threatining me with a lien and court case for the money remaining. The bathroom is still not complete, we cannot close our door, grout is not complete as well as a few other things. Does he have a leg to stand on with this lien on my property?

This is both a criminal and a civil matter. You can proceed either way, or both. Make a complaint with law enforcement.
