Legal Question in Consumer Law in Louisiana
A freind of our neighbor bought us a central air unit because we could not pay for one at the time. That was a few months ago. I sent one check last onth for part payment and intend to keep paying until he is paid, But today his wife brought over a promisssory note and wants us both to sign it. My husband is out of town till late March. She said if we did not pay what the Note said pay they would put a lean against our house. Can they do that, we signed nothing at the time we got the air conditioner.??? need free please

They would be hard pressed to prove in court that it wasn't a gift but they do not have anything which enable them to put a lien at this time. They would have to file suit, win the suit and get a judgment. They would then have to continue the suit to execute the judgment to place a lien.
