Legal Question in Consumer Law in Louisiana
My landlord has forbid me from putting a lampshade over a light. It is not permanent and can be removed or changed at any time. Nowhere in my lease agreement does it say that I cannot put a lampshade on the light nor does it say that I am forbid to make any non-permanent changes. My landlord only gives month to month leases so I am afraid to debate this issue because I feel he will force me to move out at the month's end. Do I have any protection as a renter for this circumstance? Can a landlord really tell someone that they cannot put up a lampshade or decorate their rental the way they see fit, especially if they have not specified this in their lease agreement? Please advise.

No, he really can't really tell you that you can't cover your lights with shades. However, you are correct that, as you have only a month-to-month lease, he could make you leave at the end of any month without cause or reason. All either of you needs to do to end your tenancy is to give at least 10 days' notice before the end of the month that you no longer wish to be landlord-tenant.
