Legal Question in Consumer Law in Louisiana

Listed as cosigner for people I don't know

I went to a major dealership in 2001 to purchase a car. I signed all paperwork without really reading. Almost two years later I find out that I am co-signed to two other auto loans for people I don't even know. One of these people are defaulting on their loan and I'm now getting the calls.

Collection agency sent me a copy of their contract and my signature is indeed on them. Do I have any recourse? I am planning to file a complaint with the Attorney General and send a letter to the dealership.

Just a guess, but it sounds like there was a crooked finance officer/manager of the dealership. Indeed, if you did not intend to co-sign for those people, then you probably are not liable. Go immediately to the Owner of the dealership and to the New Car Dealers Commission in Baton Rouge. You need to protect your credit. See an attorney by all means. You do have recourse.
