Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Louisiana

I got a call from someone who said he is with a law firm in California. He said I got a payday loan for $300 and never paid it back. He said he will download it to the court house tomorrow and then it would cost me $67,000. I've never gotten a payday loan and my bank confirmed that with me. He wanted me to fax him a letter of apology and promise pay two payments of $344.92. He said if I didn't pay I would be arrested at my place of employment. I don't know who these people are, but I want to know if it's a scam or if they have the athority to do this.

This is most probably a scam. You can contact the attorney general's office-consumer fraud division and report it.

It's a scam. They are coming in more different ways than ever. Why would someone who can collect $67,000 settle for $700 or so? In fact if you would cry and beg them to take $200, I bet they would take it. Tell them to sue. I as a lawyer get hit on every week. In fact I have received 2 FedEx envelopes one with a $396,000 cashier's check and the other with a $345,000 cashier's check for a foreign "client". Of course the cashier's checks were counterfeit. What was crazier was I received a 3rd Cashier's Check a week later for $285,000. Another scam was attempted when I received a call from a collection agency telling me I had FedEx's a package to (and they named the person I had sent a package to---it had nothing to do with the above mentioned cashier's checks) but that they had not been paid. I told them I paid with my credit card. He said but sometimes the storefronts don't pay FedEx and it is my responsibility. He said it was for $400. I said sue me. He said they don't want to do that, and would take $300. I told him I did not use a store front but went to the Fed Ex hub and paid them directly. He then said but they cannot collect because all they have was the last 4 numbers of my credit card and need the rest. I told him he was a fraud and to sue me. He said have a nice day. They are very slick.
