Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Louisiana

garnishments

I live in Louisiana.I have an old credit card debt from 2000. A collection agency started to garnish my wages in Feb. 2005. I started a new job in Jan. 2006. Can they just start garnishing these wages or is there a process they have to go through before garnishing from the new company?

Thanks,

Re: garnishments

Since they are garnishing your wages, I assume they obtained a judgment against you. Yes, they can garnish your wages, seize bank accounts and property, assuming they have a valid judgment.

If you think they may not have a valid judgment you may want to consult with an attorney.
