Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Louisiana
My hospital is trying to bill me for a "bad dept" of $ 4,137 from 1996. I was only 15. This is the first I am hearing about it. I had two children with the hospital & had to speak with someone to make sure all my bills were paid before they would let me deliver there & no one mentioned it. Can they legally do this?

No. You can't be held responsible for a "bad debt" from when you were a minor. In my opinion, their attempt to collect such a "debt" from you is a violation of the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act, as they know you can't possibly legally owe any such debt.
