Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Louisiana

I recently recieved notice from a collection agency that I owe them on an account that I settled 7 months ago. The account was transferred from this agency to a second one where it was settled. Can the original company still say that I owe them and do I still have the obligation to pay if the account is already settled?

If you have proof of settlement, do not worry. This could very well be a scam.
