I'm being sued for a debt I already paid off, what do I do?

You need to answer the suit alleging the affirmative defense that the debt was repaid in full. You should attach copies of any documents showing repayment. This could be cancelled checks, receipts or any paperwork showing it has been paid off. An affirmative defense prevents the creditor from taking a default judgment or winning the hearing without the judge hearing all the facts. Don't miss hearing dates and answers must be filed within 10-15 days following service. It depends on whether it is a small claims suit or not. It should say time limitations on first page
