17 ok for consent depending on how you meet?
To sum this question up in few words ..I'm 21 and I chat online and meet girls from time to time. The girls I have met and had sex with are over 18. However there is a girl that is 17 who constantly is trying to get me to take her on a date and wants to have sex. I change the subject when she brings it up because Im not sure what is legal and not legal with this subject. The laws I can find pertaining to online dating are very confusing. We all know that the age of consent in Louisiana is 17. Where Im getting lost is RS 14.81.3 Computer-aided solicitation of a minor. I have no intention of paying for sex but this law doesnt say anything about paying for it. It says talking to a girl by text message or computer with the intent to have sex is illegal if she is under 18. This doesnt make any sense, with the age of consent being 17. This is basically saying if I met her on the street and had sex right there its legal because she is 17 but if I meet her in a chat room go out on a few dates and have sex with her im in toruble. Can someone clarify this. Can you also possibly list some state and/or federal laws dealing with this topic.

This is one that has not been tested. I would never suggest becoming the person who tests a new law.
In Louisiana the time between the 17th and 18th birthdays has always been strange ground. These people are not juveniles but are not fully considered adults.
Many of these "internet predator" laws were originally written either by interest-groups or by the Federal government. State legislatures tended to copy them unaltered (out of political fear or laziness) and make them state law. The result is multiple state laws that seem to contradict each other.
