Legal Question in Criminal Law in Louisiana
I was 5 days caught shoplifting at Target in Jefersson Parish, Louisiana, The store security person stopped me on my way out of the store and took me to a back room and asked me if I knew why I was being stopped, I said yes, they said I was very cooperative, I gave back the merchandise that I had put inside my purse, the total was less than $100. A deputy sheriff came in and told me my rights, he checked on my record which was clean, so he gave me "Sheriff's Office, parish of Jefferson, Misdemeanor Summons, with a court date in 3 months. The violation # : RS14:67.10.B.3
Im an adult, middle age recently unemployed woman with no criminal record, the Deputy Sheriff told me I should go to court. I'm scared and want to know what to expect in court or waht should I do in order to clean my record or just pay a fine, please give me your best advice?

If you do not go to court a warrant will be issued for your arrest. Either hire a lawyer or ask the court to appoint one for you, if you cannot afford it. The lawyer will help you sort out your options.
