Legal Question in Criminal Law in Louisiana

I am a 26 year old, single mother, finishing my last year of felony probation. I was caught with a prescription pill in July 2008 but wasn't sentenced until October 2009. I received 2 years probation. I'm not sure if this is different in every state, but I live in Louisiana, and the judge granted me an 897 or 898, I believe, so that I could have the felony removed after I finished probation. Obviously, finding a job has been impossible but I'd like to go back to school to be a dental assistant. What exactly happens when this charge is expunged? Will I ever be able to get a descent job or actually have a career? I made a mistake. It was my fault but I've been living sober for 2 years and I'd like to be able to take care of myself and my little boy.

Once the charge is expunged, it should not appear on any employer requested criminal history. However, it will always appear on that pulled by law enforcement. You should always be honest with your employer as to what was in your background. The employer often finds the omission a worse transgression than the actual conviction.

You were close. It is 894 or 895 of the code of criminal procedure. After you do you probation time, you file under whichever Article applies and the proceedings are DISMISSES as if you were found NOT GUILTY........
