Legal Question in Criminal Law in Louisiana
My 10-year-old stepson and his friend broke out a window in what was supposedly an abandoned rental house and got caught by the police. What kind of charge is this? Could he be charged with any type of felony?

The charge is criminal damage to property. Whether its a felony or misdemeanor depends on the value of the thing damaged. Just from the description you presented, I would guess that it is a misdemeanor. The law, however, will hold you responsible for the damage caused by your minor child. If your child was caught committing this crime, then you should have your attorney work out a plea agreement that's beneficial to all parties, such as an Art. 894 plea or just restitution.
