Legal Question in Criminal Law in Louisiana
My brother...
got into a fist fight with his best friend last night. The friend spent the night in the hospital and is pressing charges. What kind of fines and/or jail time is he looking at?

In my day, when a fight was over, the participants went for a beer. Today, the loser files charges. Unless your brother started the fight or kept it up after his friend was incapacitated, or used a weapon of any kind, then he may want to oppose the charges in court. If it is a simple battery then the most he will get is 6 months in jail and $500 fine. And he will have to pay restitution such as medical bills.
