Legal Question in Criminal Law in Louisiana

Burglary

My son, --name removed-- DOB 04/16/89. Was arrested and questioned without legal representation, or even a parent present, and placed into Red River Parish Jail on 01/17/07 He is 17 years old He will be 18 on 04/16/07. He is in an adult jail. Is 17 considered an adult in Louisiana? We can not afford an Attorney, shouldn't he have been provided with one before questioning? Or at least have a parent present?

Re: Burglary

Under Louisiana criminal law a 17 year old is an adult and juvenile rules (such as having a parent present during questioning) do not apply.

If questioned he should refuse to talk until a lawyer is provided to him. This is his constitutional right.
