Legal Question in Criminal Law in Louisiana
Someone called me and said that if I did not go talk about what she figured out what I was doing (which is nothing) that she would go to the Sheriffs office and tell them what her suspicions are about me. I feel like I am being blackmailed by this woman. Can the police arrest me for her suspicion
1 Answer from Attorneys
Police can effectuate an arrest based on probable cause which is much more than mere suspicion. However, Police can and likely will investigate a matter if they have reasonable information to suspect an illegal act has occurred or is about to occur.
If, as you state in your question, you did nothing illegal, I would not worry about it. I certainly would not discuss this with the woman who is making the accusation.
In any event, IT IS STRONGLY advisable to NOT discuss this with the Police without the presence of an Attorney to represent you. Despite what Police tell you, very rarely is anything you say in a interview with Police, helpful for you. It will almost always be construed to be a statement against you.
Good luck.
