Legal Question in Criminal Law in Louisiana
My daughter was riding with her boyfriend (both 17) when Sheriff officers pulled them over for "swerving". They searched his truck and found a pipe, but no drugs. In order for them not to be in big trouble, they were forced to call whoever they knew to set up a drug buy. They couldn't find anyone and the police told them they had a year to prosecute them on this charge and would be calling them to set up drug buys and they had to do it or be in trouble. An officer has called the boy from his personal phone and refuses to give his name. He makes the boy come up with names. Word has gotten out that the boy may have given the name of someone they know who was busted, and now they are "out to get him". Can the police do this? Is it legal? They are 17 and scared and don't know any big drug dealers but are being intimidated into doing whatever they say for fear of going to jail? Did they have a right to search his truck with no real reason to pull him over. They told him, because he had an air freshner hanging from his rear view mirror it was suspicious! They are using their immaturity against them, and now they may be in danger. What can we do?

Get these kids an experienced criminal defense lawyer. This is wrong but not uncommon in this state.
