Legal Question in Criminal Law in Louisiana
When the defense attorney in a criminal case files a motion for discovery, how long does the district attorney's office have to give the requested information? Does the motion cover any new evidence that is collected after they respond or does the defense attorney have to submit another motion?
Thank you

The discovery motion is ongoing and the DA is responsible to supply new discoverable information as it comes available and no need to file another motion.

The initial answer is due within 30 days. In certain courts there is no significant penalty suffered by the state for failing to meet that deadline. The obligation to provide discovery is ongoing.
