Legal Question in Criminal Law in Louisiana
Forgery & Theft
I have someone that owes me money. They would not pay, even after I sent a demand for payment. I made up a Garnishment order, it had no signatures and was not certified. My intention was only to get this person to acknowlege the fact they owed me money. I received a check in the mail for this person's work. I tried to call and let them know this Garnishment order was not real. No one would talk to me. After about two weeks I took the check and deposit on the Credit Card bill. I was arrested for Forgery and Theft. The arresting offier said he would talk the the DA, however I have heard nothing from him and when I call his office I was told he was on vacation. I have a court date in September. Do I need to get a lawyer.
