Legal Question in Criminal Law in Louisiana
I have a friend who is in our parish jail being held for a technicality on a previous charge. My question actually has to do with the fact that she is being called as a witness in a Grand Jury hearing on the 30th of September. My friend has asked and this is my question, may I attend this hearing as a friend to her for support. She has asked this of me because she really has no one else even closely regarded as family that lives within driving distance. I do not want to know any information regarding the case itself only if I can attend these proceedings as support to her. I have tried to get information from an attorney here in town and I was told that he could not discuss anything about the case. I dont think he understood what I was asking as I believe he thought I was asking about information of the case. Ive tried calling the courthouse and no one seems to be able to answer my question other than you may want to call this attorney or you may want to try calling this other number and basically I am just getting the run around. Please if you can give me any information on this I would be greatly appreciated. Have a blessed day.

Grand jury proceedings are confidential and noone may go into the hearing other than the DA and persons subpoenaed. You can go with your friend but you will have to wait outside of any proceedings. If she has an attorney they would be allowed in but would not be allowed to say anything.
