Legal Question in Criminal Law in Louisiana

Hello. I just have a general question about expungement. Two years ago I was arrested on a public intoxication charge in the state of Louisiana. All charges were dropped. I know that I am able to get the record expunged, but it costs several hundred dollars and I am just wondering if it's even necessary. What are the benefits of expunging a dropped charge? Thanks.

Unfortunately when employers run their potential employees criminal records, many times arrests come up without anything about the disposition. When you expunge a record "it's supposed to be removed from the computers" but again, many times it is not and it shows up. So I guess the answer is, it does not do much good if the employer holds it against an applicant for an arrest.....which they can.... and the arrest is NOT removed from the computers. If the employer cares about an explanation and acts accordingly, then there is no reason to expunge since you have evidence of dismissal. However, if they do not care and will not hire you if they know you were arrested, then do the expungment and hope it does not show up. Best bet is to just tell the future employer all about it ahead of time and you won't have to worry about whether it worked or not.
