Legal Question in Criminal Law in Louisiana

my husband has battled addiction his adult life. in 2007 he was sentenced to a "rehabilitation" facility for a charge received in 2006 for having possession of 2 pills. he had finished his probation and paid his fines. just a couple of weeks ago he was arrested with pills again. as happy as i would be to see that he gets the help he needs, i would like for him not to go to prison. he has one felony on his record and now has these two pending felonies. is there any hope for him other than prison? we had saved 5,000 dollars for a new vehicle, should we just get him a lawyer, if we do is there any guarantee that he will be spared?

Two pills should be possession not distribution. Investigate whether there is a drug court in your district-if he is facing time he can enter drug court in lieu as long as no violent crimes. For felonies, an attorney is always advisable.
