Louisiana law is based on the Napoleonic Code. This is a system of laws which are written into statutues and have their basis in the laws of the Romance countries. The rest of the United States has common law which Louisiana does not recognize.

I almost agree with Ms. Lucas but not quite. Louisiana recognizes all common law of all other states. The only difference is the laws in LA are codified. And that codification is so old that new legislation and case law has replaced most of it. The results in Louisiana to legal questions are no different than anywhere else.
