Legal Question in Criminal Law in Louisiana

I have lived with boyfriend and our children for 6 years. His teenage (17) daughter physically and verbally attacked me and when she did our dog stopped her. Every time she would stop trying to fight me the dog would stop he was only aggressive when she was violent. I never hit her or did anything back to her but was arrested for my dogs actions. Our dog was adopted by her father but listens to me. I have to go to court with her in july. She has recently moved in with her mother after she again became violent this time with her father. I now have charges of assult with a deadly weapon and abandoment because my 4 year old daughter was in the other room. My question is why was I arrested and what are my options.

I am guessing, but certainly do not know, that she accused you of having the dog attack her. The best thing you can do is find a lawyer (or have one appointed) and give that person as much information as possible.
