Legal Question in Criminal Law in Louisiana

My mother-in-law took my 3 dogs to the pound. She then stated to them that the dogs were hers which they aren't. She also signed papers so that the dogs would be euthanized. She then called my husband and told him that she just dropped them off. I called the pound to tell them what happen that the dogs didn't belong to her and I wanted to come get them, they told me the dogs had already been euthanized. Meanwhile I talked to my mother-in-law on 08/02/2012 and told her that we were coming to get the dogs because they were on her property. The next day 08/03/2012 is when she said she brought them and that is the same day the pound said that they were euthanized. What can I do and what charges can I press against her in the state of Louisiana.

You can sue her civilly and possibly charge her with theft but it will depend on all facts.
