Is motion of discovery public notice? How long does it take to receive motion of discovery? If it can be viewed, how do I go about getting it?

While all pleadings filed into the Court record are public records, discovery in civil cases is rarely placed into the record, except when a motion to compel has been filed. In criminal cases, any motion for inspection or other discovery request most likely will be in the record.

If you want to look at a record, just go to the Clerk of Court and ask for it. The Clerk will allow you to look at the record and order copies of anything you want from the record. The cost is usually about $1 per page or less, depending on the parish and Court you are in.
