Legal Question in Criminal Law in Louisiana
Question about a prediciment.
I am just wondering, I recieved community service on Nov. 7, 2002 for Disturbing the Peace and Hit and Run. I have completed only eight hours of 32, and I can only do them on weekends. My court review date is on the 27th of Feb., 2003. There is no way to complete the time I have left. Can I ask for an extension but if not, what time would I be looking at? Also I was put on probation and fines of about 320.00, and this is the only thing on my record.
Sincerely,
Josh

Re: Question about a prediciment.
You can ask the judge for an extension, but this does not mean that you will get it. It is totally at the judge's discretion. The judge set a deadline that (s)he thought was reasonable. The better your reasons for not completing your service, the more sympathetic the response will be.
I can see some judges giving you more time to complete. I can see some judges saying "I wanted four days out of nearly three months, that was plenty of time." I suggest that you take off of time from your job and complete your community service. It is better than missing work without warning because you're in jail.
