Legal Question in Criminal Law in Louisiana
Would this be slander?
My neighbor used to work with me at a store that sold Halloween costumes. She was fired and I got her job as the assistant manager. She was upset over it. The store got robbed a few weeks later. After the robbery took place, she started calling the main office accusing me of stealing costumes, and that her brother seen me in a parking lot handing a co-worker an envelope. All these stories are very untrue. I purchased 3 costumes, I have the reciets, but it was not purchased untill after she made those claims. Would this be considered slander on her part? I also find that she is also disturbing the investigation of the robbery and trying to make me look guilty. I voluntarly offered to take a polygraph but the detectives won't give me one. What should I do? I have not been contacted by the police in a few weeks now. I believe they cought the robber. But she gave me a bad reputation from her claims. I am not looking to sue her, but I would like to put a stop to the childish rumors. Any advise?
